Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda): Let's Help!

As most of you already know, a week ago, a super typhoon ravished the South-East Asian area which brought most of Eastern Visayas (Samar and Leyte) on its knees. Internationally, its known as "Haiyan", but in the Philippines, it's officially called "Yolanda".

The Philippines, being a tropical country on the Pacific, is pretty much used to being visited by the occasional typhoon and storm; but in cases like a "super typhoon",well... no-one really expected a calamity "stronger than Katrina" to occur. When people heard of a typhoon coming, they initially assumed that it'll be just the usual "raining cats-and-dogs" scenario, but no, when news got out thats its a signal #4 typhoon everyone just started to go haywire and the supply-stocking-craze begun!

Oh Gawd! the "panic buying" which occurred the day before the said arrival of Yolanda was enough to surprise the worry off me; I couldn't help but laugh at my own astonishment! It was the first time I saw people filling up the supermarket. heck! even on the holidays these lines were never that long!!! The noodles and canned food sections were almost empty and so were the biscuits and liquids; most predictably, the whole store ran out of flashlights, rechargeable batteries, batteries and the sort, we had to settle for candles and some glow-sticks, garsh! even my dad bought a load of emergency lights and [was planning on buying] a generator.

When the typhoon struck, it came like a, well...a typhoon. I don't know what else to compare it with; a "strong mythical force" perhaps? hehe... Anyhow, the strong winds were blowing leaves off trees, and the leaves; well...since it was raining a bit, they stuck to the windows facing the gale, haha!

But fortunately it wasn't so strong in our area; sure, it was strong enough to topple some trees, cut telephone wires , disrupt cellphone signals and damage a geothermal steam pipe in the local power plant (causing a temporary power outage) but it didn't really hit us as hard as it did in the Eastern Visayas area.

In the end, the typhoon left a lot of families in Samar and Leyte homeless, sick, starving and basically, IN NEED OF HELP. As of today, some of the mess the typhoon made has already been sorted-out, but unfortunately despite all the help thats been given, its still not enough, the people are already shown looting the stores and (the most desperate one's) waiting for their own pets to die so they can cook them...

Just earlier today, my mom had us pack an old box full of old, used clothing to donate to the families and my sibling's school had each students donate a plastic of goods consisting of 2 kilos of rice, 2 cans of sardines, 2 packs of noodles and 2 bottles of water and some cash. I've gathered a whole bunch of links to websites with information on how to help the families here, just click on the links below:

Google has not only launched a people finder but has also launched a crisis map to help families locate loved ones and for everyone else to be updated on the current situations in the disaster areas.

These articles from The Guardian and Southern California Public Radio have more links, info and contacts on who and  how to donate to.

And last, but not the least, lets pray for the 1,000 or so people who died in the typhoon, because no matter how much we give, nothing can replace and bring back the loved ones who died; and the only thing we can give to those one's who perished and the family they left behind, are the prayers we send.

God Bless.

midnight woes....tummy grumbles

hehe...
I got back home yesterday night...more-or-so midnight and got myself an awesomely satisfying midnight snack...unfortunately...my freakin bloody stomach cant get over the fact that the "midnight-snack-idea" is sooo effing tantalizing that I'm downright tempted to sneak downstairs and spirit away a couple of  bites of fridge goodies....dang!

I sooo wish I was in Garfield's place right now...

College life, Dormitory life...gah! the blues....

gah!  dorm life sucks....I know I sound like Im exaggerating stuff.
but then...I cant really blame myself for being this passionate about this subject...
Yes dorm life iiiissss kind-a nice, but then the only thing that makes this great is the fact that I've got my  privacy and they have a fast Wifi connection that keeps me busy with my online universe...BTW WOW is gettin pretty boring....

You see... I'm currently residing in a all girls dormitory...Its okay and my fellow dorm mates (except for some) respect my privacy....and....yes its freaking safe but still...the constant scrutinizing stares and interrogative personalities of our landlady and her husband is downright hell! whats worse is that their son's; who are already adults and are professionals, ares till living their bachelor lifestyles in their parents houses and are constantly loitering around the dormitory's receiving area...they constantly flirt, taunt and express their masculinity towards us female lodgers.... there not even THAT freaking good looking...they always have these weird amorous looks upon their faces whenever they talk to the good-looking ladies in our dorm and they often tickle, pinch and GAH!! ewwwwww...... they're just old, bachelor bums who feel the need to be physically satisfied by the harem they are in.......they really are obnoxious jerks...and don't you dare  freaking get me started on the rumors about them and their illicit love affairs that's been swimming around the dorm's gossip machine....I swear its totally gross...
anyway...

These past few days I've been thinking...It would've been great if I could stay in a dormitory or apartment wherein I could cook my own meals...I can just imagine...early morning...no need to go outdoors to buy food...just cooking my own omelet, sausages and toast...
But when it comes to that matter I have absolutely no say in that...I will inevitably have to grumble to myself...

whyyyyyy???? :(

Cyber Law Philippines? Its Martial Law.....online version

YO PEEPZ!!! Whatz this I hear about this stinking Cyber Law thingy??? Its insane!

The internet is one of my favorite ways of self expression, it is where I can freely indulge myself with countless hours of self provided freedom and entertainment without someone to judge my words and ....It is where I can shout at those haters and scream in their faces without them really knowing....yes...its just like my Dear Beloved Diary....but without being able to do that...I couldn't have made many online friends who share the same views as I have...this sucks....nooo...Its worst....its a hindrance to free expression...its martial law all over again....Id rather rot in prison than to be a subject of controlled self expression....

When I heard about this law they made, I was inside my dormitory room and my dorm-mate who was fumbling with her Iphone suddenly got frantic. She showed me the posts her fellow classmates made on Facebook concerning a certain Law...and finding out about that...well....I was not pleased.....

WHAT???

I felt like I wanna go up there in front of all those head honchos and shout to their faces and ask them:

"Are you happy now, dear "fully respected" AND "beloved" government....*sarcasm mode*...? You've always fought for our freedom from our oppressors yet in such places as the cyber world, where freedom is as limitless as the sky, you choose to cage us in and limit us from self expression???"

Objection!!!

I know that what the government is doing is for the good of all people but don't you think they've gone too far with invading our privacy and limiting our human right of expressing ourselves???

As humans, we are born to express ourselves to our fellow companions, we are born to show others how we feel through our actions and words. On the Internet, its another story...its a place where countless teenagers and liberal minded people are expressing themselves to the rest of the world.....it is where we can fully understand the cultures of other people...where we can let others understand OUR culture....it is where we can meet others who have the same idealism that we have, where we can make friends aside from those we have in our everyday lives.....it is where most of our daily entertainment comes from.....yehhh....you may say that I'm over reacting or exaggerating with the way I'm letting out my words but...you see...with that law, they are giving us another reason to go against the way they're working...

This is not acceptable!!!
So as a teenager...as a student...NO...as a Filipino.... I firmly believe that what you guys are doing (Cyber law) is OKAY.....because you want to protect us against pornographers, internet scum and the such BUT....(a big fucking BUT!!! ) I do not approve of the fact that YOU are  going to Intercept our daily posts and updates in Facebook and Twitter......what are ye? gossip-mongers  to eavesdrop on our daily lives is just SICK you know.....to ban certain websites we love...what are we North Korea? This is the start of Martial Law over and over again!!!!!!!

soo....based on these documents...
So if  they're are going on with that plan about putting people to jail just for every single internet post that has a "threat" or "political criticism" (Hey everyone's go a critic y'know!!!!) ...then they better make a jail cell that can hold up to 7 million people....we are the country who formed a revolution and WON....this thing we have in our midst right now wont just be left as it is.....

*sigh*....this current issue we have right now might just lead to the same thing that happened to Shi Tao, Li Zhi, Wang Xiaoning and Jiang Lijun.....were all eventually gonna end up as political prisoners of some sort..... 12 years in prison....just because of a single effin, frickin' post....dang! Goodbye Human rights!!!

Well.....thar we go Philippines....I ranted quite a bit...but I hope you got my message...OKIEZ????
